Cape Cod Community College will host its Media Con on April 10, featuring student exhibitions, breakout sessions with media professionals and opportunities to explore careers in media, along with the debut of its first student film festival.

Originally launched in 2003 as the Cape Cod Radio Con alongside the opening of the Makkay Broadcast Center, the conference has since evolved into Cape Cod Media Con. The event provides opportunities for networking, educational sessions and a platform for students to showcase their creative work. The conference is designed to help students explore careers in media while building connections with professionals in the field.

Attendees can expect a range of activities throughout the day, including guest presentations from industry professionals such as voice actor Mike Pollock. The event will also feature student exhibitions showcasing art, journalism, and design, giving attendees a chance to engage with creative work from across campus. Additional sessions will focus on storytelling, digital content and building a career in media.

This year’s Media Con also includes the school’s first Mini Film Challenge. Professor Lisa Zinsius described the challenge as “an opportunity to experiment, tell a story, and share your creative voice.” Students are encouraged to choose from a series of prompts, such as telling a complete story in under two minutes or capturing an ordinary moment in an extraordinary way. Selected films will be screened during the event’s film festival, highlighting emerging filmmakers and showcasing student storytelling. The challenge is open to students, faculty and staff, offering a chance for anyone on campus to participate.

“This event has always been an opportunity for students to explore how creative passions can become real careers in media, storytelling, and digital content” said Professor Lisa Zinsius. Attendees will also have the chance to network with professionals, learn from them and explore potential job and internship opportunities.

The event will be held on Friday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Frank & Maureen Wilkens Science & Engineering Center (Building 6).

The conference is free and open to all but registration is required. Further information and registration details can be found here.
