An investigation has determined that Dr. John Cox engaged in “inappropriate and unprofessional conduct” while serving as 4Cs president.

Tammy Glivinski-Saben, 4Cs Board of Trustees chair, provided this information in an email sent to the 4Cs community on Friday, April 10.

It comes almost six months after the board voted to place Cox on paid administrative leave when, according to the email, the college “received credible, serious reports and a subsequent formal complaint of inappropriate and unprofessional conduct by Dr. Cox that potentially violated the Policy on Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, and Diversity.”

The email went on to say that, after learning of the complaint, the board “partnered with experienced external investigators to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation.”

Now concluded, the investigation found “that, while Dr. Cox did not violate the Policy, he did engage in inappropriate and unprofessional conduct toward the complainant that was inconsistent with his role as College president.”

Glivinski-Saben added in that email that, “to protect the privacy of the complainant and those involved in this confidential complaint process, and to honor and recognize the College’s need to move forward, this is the extent of what will be shared regarding the investigation.”

Cox retired from the position on March 16. He served as 4Cs president for 14 years.

The board has recommended Dr. Carlnita Greene to be appointed acting president by the Department of Higher Education commissioner, while a national search is conducted for a permanent president.
