As the holidays approach, many people feel pressure to provide for themselves or their families. For those who need help this season — or for anyone able to give — several local nonprofit organizations are offering support.
For students at Cape Cod Community College, the Family Food Pantry of Cape Cod operates an on-campus site staffed by volunteers. It’s located in the Life Fitness Center and is open Tuesdays from noon to 2 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pantry’s Harwich location offers additional hours for both donating and shopping.
The Lower Cape Outreach Council has served the Outer Cape since 1980, offering food, clothing and emergency financial assistance. The nonprofit shares many of its success stories with the community and continues to expand its relief services.
Founded in 1936, the Cape Cod Times Neighbors Fund supports residents facing financial hardship. As the cost of toys and clothing rises, the fund works to ensure families can still give holiday gifts.
Although this is often considered a season of cheer, many people won’t have the chance to celebrate with loved ones. With Christmas approaching, there is still time to donate or volunteer. Each organization listed welcomes contributions and extra help to make the holidays brighter for those in need.
