Taking the Trip of a Lifetime

The Tower Bridge (Jayden Johnson)

The United Kingdom is one of the most well-known countries in the world, and it offers a whole new experience when it comes to their culture. As a 4Cs student, I had the opportunity to visit this nation and have changed the way I look at it. I would encourage other members of the 4C’s community to visit the United Kingdom at some point in their lives.

There are many places in the UK to explore. One of the places I traveled was a city called York, which is rich in culture. It dates to the time of the Romans and Vikings. In the Museum Gardens, I explored different historical elements of the city. I learned about the Multangular tower; it was built around 300 A.D. and was originally part of the legionary fortress of Eboracum. The York observatory, built in 1832-1833, has a telescope that was installed in 1981 by a man named Thomas Cooke. The observatory also has 1811 clocks that tell time by the positions of the stars.

Another interesting site is called St. Mary Abbey, a church built in 1088, by William the Conqueror. (Jayden Johnson)

Back in London, there are a diverse food options from British, Thai and even Jamaican cuisine. One place I highly recommend is Nando’s, a popular chain restaurant in the UK. There’s a reason its so popular: it blends Portuguese and African flavors perfectly. Their flame-grilled chicken covered with their signature Peri-Peri sauce offers a flavorful experience that’s hard to forget.

For entertainment, I found the Camden market to be a great spot. It offers a variety of options, from clothing and souvenirs to food and much more. Another must-see is Buckingham Palace. The palace, home to a British monarch, is beautiful. The gates feature intricate designs, including lions, lamb leaves, unicorns and a harp. The mix of gold, green, and black look spectacular, and the craftsmanship shows how much care went into creating them.

The UK is filled with attractions, unique foods, and fascinating sites. I barely scratched the surface of what the UK has to offer. As a student and a member of the 4Cs community, I truly hope one day you get to experience the beauty of the UK just as I did and make new memories in the nation.
