Peer tutoring at Cape Cod Community College provides students with free academic support from classmates who have already taken and succeeded in the same courses. It also offers students the opportunity to take on leadership roles by becoming peer tutors themselves.

Tutors assist with various subjects, including writing, math, science, and technology skills. Some also serve as tech peer mentors, helping students navigate Moodle, Microsoft Word, and other digital tools. Sessions are available both in-person and online via Zoom.

“I know what it’s like to, you know, struggle for a class,” said Colby Firnrohr, a peer tutor who supports students in English Composition II and works as a tech peer mentor. “And I think having that perspective and sharing that with another student is helpful.”

Students can access tutoring by visiting the tutoring center located on the first floor of the Wilkens Library or by scheduling an appointment online through the Navigate system on the My4Cs portal.

Students who want to become peer tutors must have earned at least a B in the course they intend to tutor, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and obtain a faculty recommendation. After applying, new tutors undergo an interview and training program in accordance with the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines. Tutors are paid for their work and can work up to 18 hours per week.

Students looking for academic support can visit the tutoring center in the Wilkens Library, schedule an appointment through the Navigate system on My4Cs, or learn more at https://www.capecod.edu/tutoringcenter/.
