Fans are racing – supersonic, even – into the new “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” game. A sequel to “Team Sonic Racing”, released in May 2019, this latest title features variety and improvements.
“Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” features 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorld tracks that appear every second lap. More tracks are planned for future updates.
Extreme rider gears have returned, and customization has deepened, allowing players to buy parts, tires, and more to personalize their vehicles.
Time trials are back and seem easier than before. While found in previous Sonic games, “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” does not feature challenging modes.
Character selection is vast, with new additions and returning fan favorites. New additions include: Hatsune Miku, Joker, and Ichiban Kasuga. Jet the Hawk and his gang have also returned, after last appearing in “Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games”. However, Jet the Hawk’s last mainline title appearance was in “Sonic Free Riders”, released in Nov. 2010.
“Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” has also partnered with Nickelodeon on additional downloadable content (DLC), allowing gamers to play as SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star. The door is open for more Nickelodeon characters to appear in game as the Sonic film is partnered with Paramount, Nickelodeon’s parent company.
More DLCs and themed festivals are expected in the near future.
“Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds”, released on Sep. 5, is available to play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows.
