Dear MainSheet Readers,
It’s hard to believe another semester is already upon us. I hope you all had fun and relaxing winter breaks!
I am very excited to be returning to the MainSheet editing team again this semester. I have the privilege of sharing the editor-in-chief role with Isabella Cantillano-Sanchez. Isabella served as co-managing editor in the fall, and it was a pleasure to work with her. She brings wonderful instincts and voice to our editing team. She and I will be co-editors-in-chief and will work together to oversee the MainSheet. Isabella wrote a wonderful letter from the editor that I encourage you to read. You can read it here.
Returning this semester as senior staff reporters are Bruce Bowen, Callee Burke, Richard Clark, Kersten Marchese, and Wil Moser. They brought brilliant ideas and a passion for writing in the fall, so I am looking forward to seeing what they will write this semester!
New this semester we will have a pet column managed and written by Callee Burke. In each issue of the MainSheet we will feature a photo of a student’s pet. The cutest pet will be chosen by our “pet panelists” to be featured in an upcoming issue. For more information, check out Callee’s story here.
Richard Clark will host a video series this semester called MainSheet Conversations that will focus on topics that relate to current events and our community. The links to the series will be posted in each issue of the MainSheet. For episode one, Richard interviews Lisa Van Cott, a Nursing professor at 4Cs, about some of the challenges facing the nursing workforce today. You can watch it here.
Again this semester we want to focus on bringing new ideas and voices to the MainSheet. In addition to our usual stories, such as reviews, person-on-the-street interviews and campus event coverage, we plan to bring a broader scope of perspectives to the MainSheet in the form of current event coverage. While the world around us is not always a positive place to be, we want to ensure that we keep our readers informed. However, one of the goals of the MainSheet is also to bring joy to our readers and allow them a place to consume stories that are lighthearted and positive. We will ensure a healthy balance of stories to achieve this.
I am very optimistic looking ahead to what this semester will bring for our readers and staff reporters. This will be my final semester working for the MainSheet after having served the paper in some capacity for two years. For that reason, this semester is somewhat bittersweet for me as I will miss working with the MainSheet and Professor Miller greatly. However, I look forward to contributing to the MainSheet for one final semester.
As always, thank you so much for reading our paper. Your attention means so much to me, the editing team, and the staff reporters at the MainSheet. Good luck in the spring semester!
Warm Regards,
Jessica Lynch
