Cape Cod Community College invites students to explore services offering help to those in need during Community Resource Day. Hosted by Student Wellness and Cheryl Kramer, coordinator of essential needs, Community Resource Day will be held Tuesday Sept. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Grossman Commons cafeteria. Launched in spring 2022, Community Resource Day is held at the beginning of each semester to “encourage students to learn about…programs and services…available to them,” Kramer said.
This semester, more than 18 agencies are expected to attend, including Cape Cod Five Savings Bank, the Department of Transitional Assistance, We CAN, the Housing Assistance Corporation, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Eastern MA. Agencies will promote programs at information tables offering safe banking, SNAP benefits, local transportation, financial and support programs for women, housing support, and volunteer opportunities. “Fun give-away items” will also be available.
Kramer hopes “that students will interact with our community resources and be able to utilize services by attending the event.” Kramer added that even students who don’t need assistance now can benefit in the future by making it “easier to be connected to the programs and services they have seen or learned about at this event.” While the needs of individual students vary, “(Student) Wellness wants to support all students in every stage and need of life” as they pursue their academics, Kramer said.
