Fall is here at Cape Cod Community College, and the students are dressed for the occasion. As New England transitions from summer to fall, the temperature can fluctuate. Although annoying at times, it works out well for fashion-forward individuals.

One fashion trend seen on campus is layering. Layering is not new, we saw it in the 70’s when hippies layered scarves and vests, and in the 80’s when layered workout clothes were totally tubular. Now, layering is done in a minimalistic and practical way. “I love layering a simple long sleeve under a fun sweater because when I’m sitting in one class it will be a thousand degrees and then the next class will feel like Antarctica,” said Sarah Davenport.

In New England, white is typically worn during a 4-month period from Memorial Day to Labor Day, when white clothing gets stored away until the next year. White is worn in summer to reflect sunlight and with it, the heat. But Professor Lisa Z doesn’t believe colors have to end after certain seasons. “I am holding onto summer” said Professor Z, “even though Cape Codders think summer ends on Labor Day, I’m wearing white after Labor Day and I’ve got colors on that are still summer, but then I have my Fall boots on.” Professor Z believes that transitioning throughout the seasons has no rules.

Another Fall Fashion trend seen on campus is the sandwich method. Take two clothing items of the same color and sandwich them together to create a cohesive look. Imagine a red shirt paired with red shoes. “I feel so much more put together when I match. It takes all of two seconds in the morning. I look at my shoes and then look at my tops and see what matches and then boom I’m good to go”, said Chloe Zirpollo. “It can be two very basic pieces, but since they match, it elevates the look”, Zirpollo added.

How you embrace fall is up to you. Whether you’re already breaking out your sweaters, or you’re still wearing white to soak up the last few days of 70-degree weather, the seasons change and so do the fashion trends. Here at Cape Cod Community College, the campus is ready and dressed for them all.
