Study Smarter, Not Harder: The Top Spots on Campus to Study

One of the many wonderful places to study at 4Cs: the Seashore Lounge (Lucas Connell)

By Lucas Connell

Have you ever heard of the academic zone? It is a state of complete focus in which your best work becomes a reality. The key to this zone is where your mind and body reside, and finding this serenity can be different from one to another. You might need pure silence, natural light, or roundtables for group work. Whatever it may be, Cape Cod Community College has a variety of study spots to fit your needs; here is a list that highlights each of their strengths and weaknesses.

1. Library (Second and Third Floors)

Outlets: 5/5

Wi-Fi: 3/5

Traffic: 3/5

Atmosphere: 5/5

Seating: 5/5

Many students at 4Cs stop by the library throughout the day. Located in Building Three, Spring Semester hours are Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A major attraction is the atmosphere, as there is a designated quiet zone on the second and third floors. Additionally, plenty of outlets and USB chargers are available on the larger tables, which can seat up to four people. If minimal distraction is essential for you, look no further! There are single-seated cubicles throughout the two levels. However, with all these benefits comes high traffic, causing people to move in and out frequently, which slows the Wi-Fi. There are also plenty of air purifiers on both levels that keep the library fresh and ready for every student to enter the zone!

2. Seashore Lounge

Outlets: 4/5

Wi-Fi: 4/5

Traffic: 2/5

Atmosphere: 5/5

Seating: 4/5

Connecting Wilkens North and South is the Seashore Lounge, full of photos courtesy of the Project Forward Photography class, refreshing the eyes and filling the room. With a long stretching couch and accessible outlets, it is a perfect place to meet fellow students to work on a project or sit back, relax, and play some apples-to-apples. Additionally, the Seashore Café is right around the corner, where a selection of drinks, treats, and food are available to fuel your grind. However, as a pivotal point in the college, breaks from the constant flow of students headed to classes are rare. Get a bagel, grab a coffee, and sit at the marble tables for this warm study experience.

3. The Lorusso Lounge

Outlets: 1/5

Wi-Fi: 5/5

Traffic: 4/5

Atmosphere: 5/5

Seating: 4/5

On the second floor of the Lorusso Technology building (building nine) is a lounge with the most natural light in the college. With its high ceiling and large panes of glass, this is a perfect place to soak up some natural light and get a break from the cramped classrooms. With many roundtables, you can sit alone or with your whole group. There is no need to worry about the traffic, as there is plenty of space and strong Wi-Fi to handle any wave of students. You better bring your devices charged, as only a couple of outlets are sprinkled throughout the room, and the availability to charge your things is very low. Take a break from the low ceilings and artificial lighting for this refreshing change!
