At Cape Cod Community College, students juggling academics with work and family obligations can find relief through the Advantage program, designed to support them on their path to success.
The Advantage program offers comprehensive support including personal and academic advising, peer mentoring and transfer and career counseling. Program advisers assist with communication between students and professors during emergencies and guide them to campus resources. The office also provides essential supplies and snacks to help students manage their studies and daily needs.
Laura Doane, director of the Advantage program, emphasized the program’s broad scope: “We are funded to help students persist in higher education, including graduating with an associate’s degree and pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Our advising is holistic, addressing all aspects of students’ lives, including financial aid and long-term planning for careers and transfers.”
Doane highlighted the program’s distinct advantage: “While our advising is similar to other services, we offer a lower student-to-adviser ratio, allowing us to get to know students better. This personalized approach means we can provide a comprehensive, one-stop service rather than requiring students to visit multiple offices.”
The Advantage program’s goal extends beyond academic advising. It aims to identify suitable opportunities for students and address potential challenges, particularly with financial aid and appeals. Advisers maintain regular contact through emails and in-person meetings to ensure ongoing support.
