Few things speak to the heart quite like a favorite album. The music students choose as they walk the halls and cross campus isn’t just background noise. It shapes their experience and reflects their individuality. I asked ten students what their favorite album of all time is. With answers ranging from nostalgic classics to fresh pop hits, here is a look into some favorite albums here at 4Cs.

Kayandra Watson (Richard Clark)

“My favorite album is ‘That’s the Spirit’ by Bring Me the Horizon. I discovered it when I was like, in my early high school, and, I don’t know, it just kind of stuck with me since it’s a really emotional but also kind of experimental album. It got me into metal and rock and always stuck around with me around these years.”

Finn Dyer (Richard Clark)

“My favorite album ever is ‘Addison’ by Addison Rae. Just came out back in June. She had a really great album rollout. It was really cool to see her kind of bring the songs to life. I’m someone who definitely values visual art along with, like, audio, so it was really cool to see that. And I think just sonically, it aligns with, like, my taste the most.”

Zachary Talavera (Richard Clark)

“My favorite album is ‘In Utero’ by Nirvana. Mostly because it covers just the general feeling of the time it was written in. I wasn’t born during that time, but I have older brothers who were, and that album resonates with them, and because I live, like, three-thousand miles away from them, I listen to this album to help feel closer to them because it’s the music they grew up with. I listen to it and feel close to them despite distance.”

Mathew (Richard Clark)

“Of all time, I mean, that’s a really tough question if you can only name one, but, for me it’s probably ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ by Pink Floyd. I’ve probably listened to that more than anything else, especially in my formative years, and that’s kind of when music really sticks to you. It blew my mind. It was way cooler than anything else I was hearing play at the time, that’s for sure…and then, of course, there’s the whole mythology behind it.”

Hannah Gladstein (Richard Clark)

“My favorite is ‘So Close to What’ by Tate McRae. I just relate to a lot of the songs in the album. Her lyrics are very poetic, and I think she literally eats in all her songs and they’re all really relatable and catchy and they’re good ‘screaming in the car’ songs.”

Bella Haley (Richard Clark)

“I think my favorite album ever is ‘Teen Dream’ by Beach House. Just, like, the sound of it. It’s very relaxing. You can listen to the whole thing and not skip anything on it.”

Megan Arnold (Richard Clark)

“My favorite album is ‘Shut Up and Love Me’ by Aidan Bissett. He just dropped his debut album. He is an awesome songwriter and singer, and he just totally knows how to get a crowd going, and it’s electric guitar and rock and roll.”

Carly (Richard Clark)

“My favorite album is ‘L’Optimist’ by Andy Frasco & The UN. I found the band back in July at Coast Fest. It’s a concert near my house, and he was doing a bunch of, like, crowd work and he was, like, volunteering people to crowd surf and all that stuff. And it was so, oh my God, it was so much fun to watch. What I love about it is just his energy and, you know, just everything that he brings to the stage and, you know, I just fell in love with him.”

Matt Malone (Richard Clark)

“Favorite album is ‘Ten’ by Pearl Jam. ‘Ten’ came out in the early nineties, which is when I was growing up. I was a teenager. Makes me think of tournaments in soccer and hanging out with friends. It was always on in the background.”

Veliyah Johnson (Richard Clark)

“My favorite album is ‘Cosmic’ by Bazzi. I was in eighth grade, and I liked his song ‘Mountain’ and then from there, I think, like, in the same year, he released that album and then I started to listen to it and it just had no skips for me.”
