Cape Cod Community College invites community members to attend Time Out Tuesdays, a weekly guided meditation session. Hosted by Professor John French, the college chaplain and assistant dean of academic affairs, Time Out Tuesdays are meant to “give staff and students time to relax and look inward,” French said.
Attendees can expect to participate in “a guided meditation with music and relaxing video in the background,” French said. Each week focuses on a special theme. The session on Sept. 16 focused on the idea of new beginnings.
French, who spent 13 years as a cloistered monk, believes that Time Out Tuesdays can benefit attendees’ mental and physical health. French said some benefits can include improved mood and cognitive function, reduced stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, a boosted immune system, and a sense of inner peace and well-being.
“Meditation helps us to know ourselves better,” French said. “It relaxes us and makes us more content. When we are happier and fulfilled we will be better people and the more good people we have on campus, the better campus life will be.”
Time Out Tuesdays are held from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. in the Zen Den on the lower level of the Life Fitness Center.
